Total Clean NY — Cleaner spaces. Healthier lives.
Upholstery Cleaning in New York
Sofas, sectionals, dining chairs and mattresses steam cleaned — or low-moisture cleaned where the fabric tag calls for it — so body oils, food marks and pet odour come out and the material comes back soft.

Our own vans, our own crew
The van outside is ours. So is the technician.
No subcontractors, no lead-selling apps, no rotating strangers. The same technicians work the same neighborhoods, in uniform, in a van with our name on the side. The same faces each visit, and a number that reaches the people who did the work.
Fabric first
The tag decides the method
Most upholstery damage comes from using one aggressive method on every fabric. We read the cleaning code, test a hidden area, then choose between hot extraction, low-moisture cleaning or a solvent process.
- W and WS codes: steam cleaning (hot-water extraction) with a fabric-safe rinse, taken through the full thickness of the fabric.
- S codes: dry-solvent cleaning that lifts soil without water rings on delicate weaves.
- Velvet, chenille and linen: low-moisture passes and pile grooming so the nap sets correctly.
- Leather: pH-balanced clean plus conditioner to stop cracking at the seat edges.

What we fix
What comes out of a sofa
If any of these sound familiar, say so when you call and we'll bring the right chemistry.
Body oils on arms and headrests
The darkened patches where heads and hands rest. Oxidised oil needs a solvent-side pre-treatment, not more water.
Pet hair woven into the weave
We lift it mechanically before any moisture touches the fabric — wet hair welds itself into the pile.
Food, juice and toddler damage
Sugars left in fabric attract soil and go sticky. Extraction removes the residue, not just the colour.
Smoke and cooking odour
Odour sits in the foam as much as the cover, so we treat both and ventilate rather than perfume over it.
Sunlight and dust on the back panel
The side against the window collects the most airborne grime and is the easiest win in the whole job.
Mattress sweat and dust mites
A hot sanitising extraction on both sides, then fast drying — the standard request for allergy households.
Why people book us
A sofa is easier to ruin than a carpet
Upholstery is where inexperience shows fastest — a colour run or a water ring cannot be undone. Everything below is about not creating a problem that costs you a sofa.
We test before we touch
A hidden section — under a cushion or behind the skirt — is colour-tested first. If the dyes move, the method changes or the job does not happen.
The cleaning code decides the method
W and WS clean wet, S needs solvent, X is vacuum-only. Using one aggressive method on every fabric is how velvet gets crushed and linen gets water-marked.
We will turn a job down
If a piece is X-code, structurally fragile or has unstable dyes, we say so and leave it alone. A refused job costs us one visit; a ruined sofa costs you far more.
No shrinkage from removed covers
Loose covers that were never pre-shrunk are cleaned in place rather than pulled off and washed, which is the cause of most 'it does not fit any more' complaints.
Straight talk about foam and odour
Odour lives in the cushion core as much as the cover. If urine has saturated the foam, replacing the insert is the real fix and we will tell you that instead of selling you three treatments.
Dry in hours, not days
Moisture is matched to the fabric and airflow is set before we leave, so most pieces are usable the same afternoon.

The process
How we clean upholstery
Identify
Cleaning code checked, fabric tested in a hidden spot for colour-fastness.
Dry soil removal
Crevice vacuuming through seams and under cushions, where most of the grit lives.
Clean
Fabric-matched solution worked in gently, then steam extracted or solvent-lifted.
Set & dry
Nap groomed, airflow arranged, cushions left standing to dry evenly.
Before we arrive
Before the crew arrives
Upholstery jobs are quick, so a little access goes a long way.
- Clear the sofa of cushions, throws and anything stored underneath.
- Find the care tag if you can — it's usually under a seat cushion.
- Tell us about pet accidents and roughly how old they are.
- Leave a metre of space around the piece for the wand and hose.
- Plan to keep pets and kids off it for a few hours afterwards.
Our promise
- Tell the technician before they pack up and they'll re-treat it on the spot. If the same stain comes back call within 14 days and we come back at no charge.
- The price we quote on the phone is the price on the invoice.
- Anything we can't fix, we tell you before we take payment.
- Licensed, insured, and background-checked technicians only.

Straight answers
Questions we get every day
How much does it cost to clean a sofa?
A three-seat sofa is $99, a loveseat $79, an armchair $49 and sectionals start at $189. Dining chairs are $15 each and mattresses start at $79. Fabric type doesn't change the price — only the size does.
What fabrics can you clean?
Cotton, linen, polyester, microfibre, chenille, velvet, wool blends and most performance fabrics. Check the tag under your cushion: W and WS clean wet, S needs a solvent method, and X is vacuum-only. If there's no tag, our technician tests a hidden section first.
How long before I can sit on it again?
Two to four hours for most fabrics with airflow. Low-moisture cleaning on delicate pieces is often dry in about an hour.
Can you get pet smell out of a couch?
Usually. Odour lives in three places — the fabric, the foam and the frame area underneath. We treat the fabric and flush what we can reach in the cushion core with enzyme solution. If urine has saturated the foam, replacing the insert is the honest answer, and we'll say so.
Do you clean leather?
Yes. Leather is cleaned and conditioned rather than extracted, which lifts body oils and restores flexibility. $79 for a three-seat leather sofa.
Will the colour run or the fabric shrink?
We colour-test a hidden area before starting and match the moisture level to the fabric. Loose covers that aren't pre-shrunk are cleaned in place rather than removed, which is what causes most shrinkage complaints.
Do you clean mattresses for dust mites?
Yes — a hot extraction and sanitising pass on both sides, a common request in allergy and asthma households. From $79 for a queen.
How often should upholstery be cleaned?
Every 12 to 24 months for a sofa in daily use, annually if pets are on it. Body oils are invisible until they oxidise, at which point the darkening on the arms and headrest is much harder to reverse.
Can you clean dining chairs and headboards?
Yes. Dining chairs are $15 each, headboards from $39. Both are usually done alongside another service since they take minutes each.
What if my sofa has no care tag?
That's common on imported and vintage pieces. We test in a hidden spot — under a cushion or the back skirt — and choose the gentlest method that works.
